Royal dynasty of the Mac in Duong Kinh

Legend has it that Mac Dang Dung was the 7th offspring of the first laureate Mac Dinh Chi. He was born in a poor fishing family in Co Trai village (1483-1541), Nghi Duong district (now Ngu Doan commune, Kien Thuy district). Grown-up, he followed military career.

In Le Uy Mac time (1509 - 1609), he was promoted to a manager of Marine Corp from just a common soldier. In this time, the King was debauched, the society was in disorder and people's belief was dispersed still he pacified many rebellions and achieved outstanding success winning people's faith. In the Complete History of Great Viet (Dai Viet su ky toan thu), the historian Le Quy Don wrote: 'everybody was turning to follow Dang Dung'. In 1527, he ousted the king Le Cung Hoang, and ascended the throne. After 3 years governing the country, he left the throne for his son in 1529 to come back Duong Kinh (Ngu Doan commune, Kien Thuy district). Here another urban was built with a system of palaces for the king's father, the king, high ranking-mandarins, the Queen and the Princesses next to Thang Long. This was where the King and mandarins gathered to decide national work. Though he left the capital, he still governed the country with his son that was already in the prosperous time. 'For years, thieves and robbers vanished, livestock didn't need keeping in cages, farmers had good crops and everywhere was peaceful'. (The Complete history of Great Viet).

Thus, in Duong Kinh village, Ngu Doan commune, Kien Thuy district there was time when royal dynasty of the Mac was prosperous. Rings of old capital walls, inscriptions and temples are still exist. 'The trails of the old palace can be found at Temples and Communal houses' are now waiting tourists to come and visit and for archaeologists to discover.
